Texting and driving poses a serious safety hazard for young drivers in Alabama. To spread the message about the dangers of texting and driving, Morris, King & Hodge, P.C. is sponsoring the first annual Driver Safety Scholarship contest.

Our law firm will award three scholarships to 2015 graduating seniors and/or rising freshmen in Alabama colleges and universities who create an original essay public service announcements explaining the dangers of texting and driving and practical steps to ending this momentous problem.

Sending text messages takes drivers’ eyes off the road, their hands off the wheel and their mind off the task of driving and remaining alert for oncoming traffic. What can we do in Alabama as a community to convey to young drivers that texting and driving leads to serious and avoidable accidents? We’re confident our young people have some good ideas.

To enter the contest, you’ll need to submit a minimum of 1000 word essay. We’re seeking clever, well researched ideas that offer a fresh take on the dangers of texting and driving. The tone can be light-hearted or serious, as long as it’s informative, helpful and original. Also submit a signed and scanned application form along with a digital photo of yourself.

The deadline for submitting entries is 11:59 p.m. CDT Dec. 31, 2014.
