Most Dangerous Intersections in Florence, Alabama

Huntsville car wreck attorneys

There were more than 1,500 traffic accidents in the city of Florence, the Times Daily reported in January. The Florence Police Department compiled the statistics over two years. The department used the data to identify the 10 intersections where the most accidents have occurred as part of a plan to reduce the number of crashes.

Patrol Captain Ryan Fleming told the Times Daily that there would be four motorcycle officers on patrol Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Those are the days of the week identified as when the most car accidents happen, around 7 a.m. and between 3 and 5 p.m. “We’re going to try and get people to slow down, and correct bad driving behavior,” Fleming told the Times Daily.

What Are the Most Dangerous Intersections in Florence?

According to the Times Daily, the intersection in Florence with the most accidents last year was Helton Drive and Cox Creek Parkway. Six of the Florence Police Department’s 10 worst intersections were on Cox Creek Parkway.

Here is the complete list:

  • Helton Drive and Cox Creek Parkway
  • Cox Creek Parkway and Chisholm Road
  • Cloverdale Road and Cox Creek Parkway
  • East Dr. Hicks Boulevard and South Court Street
  • Cox Creek Parkway and Darby Drive
  • Florence Boulevard and Cox Creek Parkway
  • Helton Drive and Hermitage Drive
  • Huntsville Road and Cox Creek Parkway
  • Florence Boulevard and Huntsville Road
  • Florence Boulevard and Indian Springs Drive

Common Types of Crashes at Intersections

Many different kinds of accidents can occur at intersections. Distracted driving can contribute to rear-end collisions, speeding through intersections can cause possible side impact collisions, and dangerous passing or turning can lead to a head-on collision.

Other drivers are not the only people at risk in intersection accidents. Pedestrians and bicyclists can also be injured if drivers fail to see them, refuse to share the road, or are otherwise negligent.

How to Avoid Accidents in a Dangerous Intersection

The police chief told the Times Daily that speeding, following too closely, failure to yield, and failure to obey traffic signals were among the most common causes of accidents. You should obey the posted speed limits while driving in Florence and make sure to obey all traffic signs and signals.

Do not assume that other drivers will always drive with care and caution. You should always practice defensive driving while in the city. An additional measure of caution at four-way stops, as well as yielding to other drivers if you’re unsure of which vehicle arrived at the stop first, could help prevent a collision.
